Veterans Day
Veterans Day takes place on November 11 every year. The date marks the end of World War I, which occurred on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918.
Originally called Armistice Day, the holiday’s name was changed to Veterans Day in 1954. The day honors veterans both living and dead, and Veterans Day provides a great opportunity to remind all American citizens and democratic societies around the world about American history and culture.
Veterans Day 2022
On November 11, many fellow GLVFA members and website guests will celebrate the day with festive outings, visits with family, perhaps watch or participate in local parades, enjoy free or discounted food at local restaurants, and perhaps play a round of golf at your favorite course or perhaps in our annual GLVFA Nature Coast Golf Event!
Regardless of your planned activities on Veterans Day, please consider taking a few moments to clear your busy thoughts of the day then stop to think.

America Honors Our Heroes
Each year, at the Arlington National Cemetary, we give national respect to those that made the ultimate sacrifice:
The focal point for official, national ceremonies for Veterans Day continues to be the memorial amphitheater built around the Tomb of the Unknowns.
At 11 a.m. on November 11, a combined color guard representing all military services executes “Present Arms” at the tomb. The nation’s tribute to its war dead is symbolized by the laying of a presidential wreath. The bugler plays “taps.” The rest of the ceremony takes place in the amphitheater. Veterans Day ceremonies at Arlington and elsewhere are coordinated by the President’s Veterans Day National Committee. Chaired by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, the committee represents national veterans organizations. Governors of many states and U.S. territories appoint Veterans Day chairpersons who, in cooperation with the National Committee and the Department of Defense, arrange and promote local ceremonies.

As is the official national ceremony at Arlington National Cemetary on Veterans Day, our fallen and wounded heroes are honored throughout America. Each of us have our own personal remembrance as veterans ourselves, for our family and friends who served, and for the thousands of unknown fellow Americans who gave some, and for some who gave the ultimate sacrifice, to defend our democracy and our American way of life.
As our United States Constitution declares, "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" is what veterans throughout American history have fought for. With Old Glory in their hands, "this they defended".
And for all of us, on this Veterans Day 2022...please think....and remember the fallen and thank the brave and patriotic men and woman who proudly served our country.
