Cindy Rauf spoke on January 8th. She’s the Community Partner Director of Senior Helpers in Spring Hill and shared how veterans can apply and qualify for this assistance by using the VA’s Aid and Attendance Benefit which can help pay for the care. The service is not based on income. Medicare’s GUIDE program is also an under-used benefit improving the quality of life for individuals living with dementia. Senior Helpers support seniors to allow them to “age-in place” without the need to leave home. A wide range of services is offered from companion support, assistance with daily activities, and help for those with chronic diseases. At the January 8th meeting, associates also graciously responded to the Veterans Depot’s recent urgent request for paper towels, toilet paper, and toothpaste. Mary McColgan thanked all for our continuing support. Unfortunately, local Veterans continue to need even the most mundane help.
