Justin Everts of HCA Heathcare's Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center discussed with GLVFA members how their experienced team of physicians and nurses provide high-quality wound care to patients in Hernando, Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. Their team work together to evaluate specific wounds and carefully craft treatment plans tailored to their patients' specific needs.

Some of the areas Justin discussed at this meeting were:
  • Minor burns
  • Injuries caused by radiation exposure
  • Injuries resulting from trauma
  • Skin damage caused by incontinence or other moisture
  • Skin ulcers
  • Skin wounds
and other areas of interest to the members such as a quick discussion on diabetes and blood clotting in the lower extremities.  He also detailed:

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)In some cases, HBOT can assist healing by increasing the immune and healing responses in the body. When a patient receives hyperbaric therapy, they enter a hyperbaric chamber that simulates a highly pressurized environment. While in the chamber, patients breathe 100 percent pure oxygen, allowing more oxygen to enter the body’s tissue. This offers multiple medical benefits, including speeding the body’s healing process.
He discussed that HCA Florida (Oak Hill, and other HCA affiliated hospitals in Florida) wound care treatment for a variety of wounds and conditions including:
  • Arterial blood flow insufficiency to limbs
  • Diabetic wounds of lower extremity

The presentation by Justin was very well received and everyone present learned quite a lot about wound care.
